We enjoyed the Mountain Top Rodeo in Dahlonega this past weekend. It’s a yearly tradition for us. I started going to this rodeo when I was young and I love that I can now share the fun with my kids. We had an exhausting weekend but our hearts are full after a lot of family time.
This has been a season of change for us. One thing that has changed is that we are going to a new church. It’s VBS week, so this week will be busy but fun! I volunteered to help, so I’m going to have some easy meals so we can make it through. Today was day 1 and it went well. I’m excited to start meeting some new people and my kids have been making some great new friends.
Monday: Fettucine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli
Tuesday: Trim Mac Salad
Wednesday: Soup and Sandwiches
Thursday: Lasagna
Friday: Dinner at church
Saturday: Dinner out
Sunday: Leftovers!

We were so busy earlier this year that I never made it to the theatre to see DUMBO! I’m excited that I finally received word that we can bring DUMBO home on Digital, 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™ and Movies Anywhere Tuesday, June 25th. Not much longer to wait!
Synopsis:
Stunning extras will transport viewers to the set of “Dumbo,” where cast members Danny DeVito (circus owner Max Medici), Michael Keaton (opportunistic businessman V.A. Vandevere), Colin Farrell (war-veteran-turned-elephant-keeper Holt Farrier), Eva Green (stunning aerialist Colette Marchant), Nico Parker (Farrier’s daughter, Milly) and Finley Hobbins (Farrier’s son, Joe) share their personal stories of courage and character. Features explore how Disney’s timeless animated story was brought to life with an incredibly expressive, lovable, fully computer-generated baby elephant; the longtime collaboration of Burton, production designer Rick Heinrichs and costume designer Colleen Atwood, which resulted in jaw-dropping sets and costumes; and the creation of the visually colossal Dreamland parade sequence. Also included are nine deleted scenes, hidden and not-so-hidden Easter eggs, bloopers and a special performance of “Baby Mine” by Arcade Fire.
In “Dumbo,” struggling circus owner Max Medici enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive but sinister entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, spectacular, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland.
2 lucky winners will each win a digital download code so they can enjoy DUMBO in their own home! Simply fill out the Rafflecopter below for your chance to win!

The 200 Questions About American History set includes the following:
Inside 200 Questions About American History Student Book, there is a recommended schedule. I found this to be extremely helpful in setting up my 7th grader’s studies and for the most part, we have followed their schedule. He is currently working on reviewing for his first test and we will probably test tomorrow.
The work is broken down into 34 weeks, which makes it much easier to digest. Each week may have a few chapters for reading, followed by drill questions in their book and corresponding note cards. Some weeks are designed for studying or testing. Each chapter is only 1-2 pages, making it a breeze to read a little each day.
The included note cards are very helpful in keeping facts fresh in their minds. There are drill questions, timeline pieces, quotes, and presidents. I think once he has memorized all of them, he will have a great grasp on American history. I am trying to memorize them along side of him and it’s amazing how much we can remember when it’s presented in a simple fact format.
If you follow the suggested schedule, and in addition to the products provided in these sets, you’ll need to grab Story of the World Volume 4. That isn’t needed until week 25.
The Story of the Thirteen Colonies & the Great Republic Set includes the following:
The Story of the Thirteen Colonies & the Great Republic did not have a schedule included, nor is there a schedule that shows how to use both sets simultaneously that I could find. That would be a wonderful thing to be added to these sets. This book has 32 lessons inside, so we could spread it out to one lesson a week or so throughout the school year. We found it didn’t exactly line up so we are just working on it as we read through the chapters and come across the material.
Each lesson includes vocabulary, comprehension questions, and enrichment. Enrichment was my son’s favorite part. Some activities would be to find locations on a map, add timeline pieces, and composition. Below, you can see him responding to the enrichment activity in lesson three, where he had to write a journal entry from the perspective of Balboa after he climbed the mountain and saw the Great South Sea for the first time. I love that it brings out thinking and creativity along with working through history.
The teacher’s manuals are very thorough with the answers needed to quick check my son’s work. Tests and answers are also included.
Overall, we are enjoying this program. My son enjoys reading so he doesn’t mind having several chapters on history to read each week. As I mentioned above, the only thing I would change is having a schedule that included both sets of books in it to easily determine what is supposed to be done each day. We are happy with it and will definitely continue using this when we officially start his seventh grade year this fall.

The picture above is my sweet mom. She took the kids to Build a Bear to take advantage of their buy one get one for $10 sale (ends Wednesday). It’s been at least 4-5 years since we went to Build a Bear!
This must be the week of birthday parties – we have 2 to go to this week and both at dinnertime. That makes meal planning super easy! This week we are still also working on our homeschool year. I hope to give it another 2-3 weeks and we will be done. With my husband’s health issues and other things throughout this year, we definitely took too many breaks.
Monday: Meal from friends
Tuesday: Birthday party
Wednesday: Trim Mac Salad
Thursday: Birthday party
Friday: Grilled chicken, Veggies
Saturday: Burgers, broccoli

I’m always hesitant to buy something like a planner online because I prefer to thumb through it first and make sure it’s a fit for me. I’m glad I had a chance to review this planner because it’s now my favorite! Within it’s 189 pages, you’ll find everything you need to keep your homeschool organized including calendars, forms, record-keeping, devotions, and more! The planner consists of full size sheets of paper but with the binding, it’s easy to use on a desk.
Check out all that is included by looking at the Table of Contents:
When the planner first arrived, I was very pleased! I love that it is spiral bound so I can easily flip through it. I also like that it has room for plans for 5 different children!
One improvement that I’d like to see in next year’s version is some sort of tabs so I can flip to the page I need with ease. It can be a pain to find the spot I’m wanting to work on with all those pages. I am probably going to buy some sticker tabs to use in this planner. I also noticed that on one month, the numbers were off on the calendar, but with some white out, it was an easy fix.
I haven’t done a lot with the planner yet since we are still finishing up the current year of school, but I plan to soon! (Maybe I should write that in the planner! Ha!) I have started making lists of curriculum I plan to use with the kids next year.
I also like that there is an area to record books that my children have read, their yearly goals, and plenty of areas to make notes on each of the children. The kids are already planning how we will fill up these sections once we work more on planning for the school year.
The Devotional section is nice. After each devotion, there is a fully lined piece of paper so I can jot down any notes or reflect back on what I’ve read. This is a lovely feature that I know I will use.
The weekly planner has plenty of room for seven subjects or categories for each of the five children spaces. The blocks are a nice size and allow for writing down numerous assignments in each box.
This planner was a win for me! I will most likely use this again the following school year!
For more information, you can visit the Hey, Mama! Homeschool Planner for 2019/20 Year website. I heard that they are almost 98 percent sold out, so you’ll want to grab one soon if you are interested. They are currently on sale for $22.

My husband was recently on medical leave due to receiving radiation for cancer. During this time, he has enjoyed reading books. One that has stood out to him among his favorites is The Logic of God by Ravi Zacharias.
In his first ever devotional, The Logic of God, apologist Ravi Zacharias offers 52 readings that explain how and why Christianity, the Bible, and God are still relevant, vital, and life-changing for us today. Each entry includes a Scripture, questions for reflection, and some practical application steps.
Jesus Christ alone answers our deepest questions. We all have doubts that challenge our faith. We wonder whether the Bible still matters, or whether God is truly as loving and personal as we hope. In his first ever devotional, The Logic of God, apologist Ravi Zacharias offers 52 readings that explain how and why Christianity, the Bible, and God are still relevant, vital, and life-changing for us today. To all our dilemmas Ravi says, “I am convinced that Jesus Christ alone uniquely answers the deepest questions of our hearts and minds.”
With a remarkable grasp of biblical facts and a deep understanding of the questions that trouble our hearts, Ravi tackles the most difficult topics with ease and understanding. But The Logic of God is more than intellectual; it is also personal, offering thoughtful wisdom on:
We like the setup of the 52 week study and reading through a section weekly. The questions make us think. There are application questions that help us further think and apply the lessons. The sections are nice and short, so it doesn’t take a large amount of time to read through. The lessons are very well done, God-focused, and point us back to Christ. This is going to be a staple around our house!
