I just saw this on the Sam’s Club facebook page. Starting this Sunday, April 19th, Sam’s Club will launch their “Hero Hours”, where they are offering first responders and healthcare workers the chance to shop from 8-10am. This will take place every Sunday in the near future. One important thing to note, is that a membership is not required, according to many of their facebook replies to comments!

Happy Monday! Today is day 31 in social isolation for our family. We are doing well for the most part. Easter was very quiet and definitely didn’t feel normal for us. My husband was working but he was able to stop by for an Easter lunch. Overall, a good day and a good weekend. The week ahead of course brings more of the same! Hope you all have a great week.

Did you know the USPS store has an eBay store? I love checking it out because they always have the coolest “forever” stamps available. With the kids mailing things to their friends and using up tons of stamps, it’s my go to place. The prices are the same as you’d find in the post office, but without having to go in! Shipping is $1.30 for the first set and then free after that!
We recently found these fun Tyrannosaurus Rex stamps, which my 4 year old uses to mail his friends stuff. They are definitely a hit!

This book is probably a new favorite of mine. It was written by Vicki Watson. Recently I have been getting more and more interested in History. I enjoy learning different things like about the Indians, the presidents, the Oregon Trail, the Holocaust, Sacagawea along with Lewis and Clark, and different inventions from different time periods. This book does not include the time period of the Holocaust but it has all the rest and even more stories that I enjoyed. History on Horseback is my new favorite history book because it combines two of my favorite things: history and horses. I have loved horses forever so when I can mix learning with horses, I am a lot more eager to learn. I especially love this book because it is easy to read, exciting, and has fun facts on the side. Fun facts are stuck in my head for a long time and I enjoy sharing them with other people. This history is unlike a normal history textbook. It has truth but still has so much adventure and action. I am not a fan of war so I am content just learning about burro races, pit ponies, and Abraham Lincoln’s story.
My favorite sections in the book are about the Oregon Trail, Abraham Lincoln’s story, and the stagecoaches. Oxen were used on the trail more than horses because they were cheaper, calmer, and survived on less food. The oxen were hitched to the wagon by use of a yoke which was held in place by a chain and the ox’s horns. The Oregon trail groups usually set out around mid-April or early May. The pioneers had to leave at just the right time so there would be grass for the animals and not too cold weather.
Abraham Lincoln’s story is my favorite out of all of them. Lincoln had four sons but only one lived until an old age. While Lincoln was president, someone set fire to the White House Stable and the family lost all their beloved horses and ponies. There were many different horses used during John Wilkes Booth’s assassination of Lincoln. Some were used by Booth himself, while others were used by other assassins as part of Booth’s plan. Still more horses were used to be distractions. The story ends with the punishments for the conspirators.
As with our previous experiences with this book company, we were not disappointed in this new book. We are eagerly looking forward to future productions from Sonrise Stable Books. Thank you so much for making a way to have history come to life for horse lovers.
