We finished our third week of school today, but for many areas around the country, the beginning of school is still upcoming. I honestly can say that I love homeschooling my children. Being my children’s teacher comes with it’s own set of challenges and rewards. Like everyone, we have great days and not so great days. Regardless, it’s where I’ve been called to be and I’m blessed to homeschool my children.
My favorite part of homeschooling is being able to watch the “wheels turning” when my children finally understand something that they had been struggling with. The “A-Ha!” moment is priceless.
How We Gear Up for Back to School:
Our family has a few traditions that we do in order to prepare for back to school. For starters, we hit up the stores like Office Depot® OfficeMax® for all of the great back to school sales. Typically I stock up on school supplies to last the whole year during the back to school sales. I’d rather have extras than have to go out and pay full price later in the year.
Once the curriculum has arrived and supplies are ready, we pick out a fun outfit to wear for the special day. This year, my daughters all chose fancy dresses and my son had a nice button up shirt.
Finally, on the day when our homeschool starts, we kick it off with a special trip to the local bagel shop! We’ve done this for several years now and it’s a great way to officially start off the year right.
Hopefully our back to school traditions come to mean as much to the kids as they do to me. Sometimes it’s just the little things like bagels in the morning that matter the most.
What do the kids think?
Have you ever wondered how your kids view you? These parents found out in this video by Office Depot® OfficeMax®! It’s so sweet! Have the tissues ready and check it out! Share it with your friends as well!
I decided it would be fun and ask my children a few questions and get their responses. Here’s how that went down from my 5 children:
What is the purpose of a mom?
- G: To love us and take care of us.
- P: To do fun things and love us.
- A: Moms read books, and teach us, and help us.
- E: You cook food for us and take us for ice cream.
- S: Mama! (Hey, he’s 11 months!)
Their responses were great! It’s funny how each one had a different response to the question. Can you guess which child has a sweet tooth? Haha!
