Here’s another fun thinking game from our friends at Timberdoodle. This time, we were sent Quixo! Quixo is a great game that constantly changes. Think of tic-tac-toe with a much more complex process. With Quixo, you start with all cubes on the blank side. From there, you can play as either 2 players or 4 players. When you play with 2 players, you pick any block from an edge, turn it to your shape, and then slide it back in another place. It cannot go back where it came from, so this board is constantly changing. Once you have 5 in a row, you win!
With 4 players, it gets a little more complicated as only the person that the dot on each piece is facing can remove that piece. I love stratgy games and this one was a lot of fun! Quixo comes with a little storage bag so it is easy to play on the go.

This is another fun game! I think my kids have played this a ton over the past few weeks. Horse Academy by Smart Games is a one player game that is geared toward players ages 7 and up.
With Horse Academy, you have 80 challenges and have to put the obstacles in order as the challenge lists them and make it to the exit. It was fun to beat the challenge and also pretend play with the horse clearing all the jumps. This game helps build cognitive skills, including spatial insight, planning, and problem-solving. It’s a great size and perfect for quiet time play.

With 80 challenges to solve, this is one that will keep the kids thinking and strategizing for hours. We’ve even taken it in the car with us since it’s somewhat portable.
Pirates Crossfire has four modes of play: nobody can fire at each other, the pirates can fire at the navy, the navy can fire at the pirates, and everybody fires at each other. In each situation, all pieces must be used, and while there are many ways to fill the game board, there is only one correct solution! The challenges range in difficulty from easy to complex. This game is absolutely perfect for a rainy day!
To start, you simply put the rocks/islands where the challenge states and then use the pieces to try and fit them in according to the challenge. It can be more challenging that you think to get all the pieces to work, plus trying to make sure the cannons aren’t pointing the wrong way.
This game is geared toward ages 7 and up. My 6 year old found it a bit challenging, but still had fun. My 11 year old LOVED it!
