We love being reviewing fun products in our homeschool.  Recently we have been checking out the   Adaptive Math Curriculum Online  from A+ Interactive Math (by A+ TutorSoft Inc.).  I’m always a fan of anything that helps enhance our homeschool learning.

Adaptive Math

About the Product:

Geared toward grades 1-6, including Pre-Algebra, A+ Interactive Math helps to eliminate the stress of teaching math!  Adaptive Math Curriculum Online requires a pre-test to gauge your child’s level before beginning the program.  The program includes:

  • Multi-grade level testing to identify learning gaps (if any)
  • Engaging lessons to learn math concepts
  • Interactive review with automatic re-teaching
  • Practice problems to apply math concepts
  • Step-by-step solutions to reinforce math concepts
  • Automatic grading and tracking with easy to read progress reports

Our Thoughts:

Before starting, I highly recommend watching the tutorial video to get a complete feel for how to properly use the program.  At first, I  found it a little hard to navigate to view the reports in the parent dashboard.  Once I got the hang of it, it’s fairly easy to see what needs work.

The Teacher Dashboard offers a look inside your child’s learning with student reports, lesson plans, and even parental control options.  The parental control options gave me the choice to hide the calculator, worksheet answer keys and solution guides, in addition to extending the time for the placement tests.  That is very helpful for kids that need a little extra time to solve the problems.  In the dashboard, I am able to view the answers that were submitted for tests, view work attempt details, and see if they are at grade level according to the program.

Each child is given their own unique login with the program, which was helpful.  I could add up to 10 students, so I added my older 4.  For reviewing purposes, I mainly focused on my 1st and 2nd graders with the program.

With the many advantages of the program, we did have a few things that didn’t go perfectly.  One of the main issues the kids had was that when you work a problem, you have to click the frog to submit BEFORE you click the “Next” button.  Even after reminding them several times, they would still forgot to click the frog to check their answer first.  Many times it would count it wrong just because they didn’t submit the answer.  That was a bit frustrating for them, but truly minor in perspective.  Still worth noting, though.

I do like that it shows where your child is at compared to where it thinks they should be and shows the “improvement” along the way.  It was neat watching their person get closer and closer to their goal.

As a side note, my kids, aren’t really fans of the program.  There is no fun aspect to it in their eyes, just more math to do.

I think this will be a great supplement to our homeschool when we need extra practice on a topic or when they need a little busy work throughout the week.  Definitely see this coming in handy during the summertime.  I plan to continue the program throughout the next year and look forward to seeing how they have improved as time goes by.
