Sample of notes
Each lesson starts with a short video with instruction on a new grammar concept and a link for notes that need to be printed. The notes are very helpful in remembering the concepts during the unit. We kept our notes all together in a simple file folder by the computer so the kids could look back during the lessons, if needed.
During the video, your students will need to interact through a quiz to make sure they are following along and paying attention. After the video, they will have a few practice sentences to work on labeling words and putting in to practice what they have just learned. The lessons provide feedback immediately, which is very helpful with grammar.
The GrammarPlanet program is self-paced and students can spend more time on a section if needed. After the practice sentences, there is a test to make sure the concepts are understood.
If one of my students are having trouble, the GrammarPlanet program instantly sends me an email to let me know one has missed several problems in a row and locks the unit. Then, under my teacher account, I have the option to have them work through the unit again or I can discuss the issues with them and unlock the unit. Since the teacher has access to view all answers given, I can easily pull up the missed problems, discuss, and move on from there. Oftentimes it’s just a matter of rushing through labelling with simple errors, like below. I really like this part of the program since I have a few students that will occasionally just click their way through things to just get it completed. Locking them out and emailing the teacher prevents that from happening.
There are 60 units in the works right now. Unit 1 starts with nouns and then builds from there in following units to identify pronouns, verbs, adverbs, and more. You can view the units and what is taught below:
The GrammarPlanet program is designed for students aged 10 years and up. It’s also designed for public school, homeschool, or adults.
Our Thoughts:
My middle schooler was a little frustrated with the program, but most of his errors were from rushing through instead of taking his time. My 10th grader and I enjoyed getting the instant feedback and accomplishing the units. I appreciated getting a little refresher to keep my mind going so I can keep up with the kids and their assignments.
I think GrammarPlanet is a well done and needed program in the world of online learning. We will be continuing to use GrammarPlanet in our homeschool for years to come.
It is free to use the GrammarPlanet program, however there are ads. If you prefer ad-free, the price is $39 and is only a one time fee.
