To be honest, art is not one of my favorite subjects to teach. With the kits from Kidzaw.com , my children can create beautiful masterpieces such as the Master Kitz The Starry Night.
We were so excited to have been chosen for this amazing review and eagerly awaited our kit. Once it arrived, we couldn’t wait to get started. Inside the kit, we found detailed instructions to recreate our very own van Gogh’s Starry Night inspired painting. Also included in the box was several bottles of paint, oil pastels, a stencil, removable stickers, and two large pieces of paper. I was very happy to see two pieces of paper so my 7 and 9 year old daughters could both participate with this art activity.
To get started, we cleaned off the kitchen table and taped the included paper down so our project wouldn’t move around. The instructions were very clear on how to proceed and even estimated the amount of paint to pour so we could start the project. I read each step out loud and guided them in creating the painting.
My girls took turns doing each step. First up, we placed the removable stickers down to hold blank space for the stars and moon. Then they had a great time using the patterned roller to create designs across their paper. Once the stickers were removed, we went on to the next step, which was using the included stencil to create the main part of the picture. I opted to hold the stencils down for them so the stencil wouldn’t move and mess up their paintings. The stencil was fairly curled up from being in the small box. Next time, we may open our box before we plan to use it and try to flatten out any stencils. For this part, they switched to the non-patterned roller and rolled back and forth over the stencil. Both girls used the rollers without any assistance and didn’t run into any problems.
After this, it was time to let it dry. It only took about 15-20 minutes for the paint to air dry since we didn’t apply it too thick. During this time, we washed up our hands and cleaned the rollers and put them away for future use.
Then it was time to use the oil pastels. The girls went back over their dried paintings with the oil pastels to create finer details. The girls had a fun time with this, creating lines and shapes and the moon and stars.
The paper is a good quality and would be great for framing and placing in the playroom for all to see.
This art kit was perfect for an evening at home creating a masterpiece. I really liked that everything needed, with the exception of a paper plate for the art palate, was included. The girls loved opening up the kit, pulling everything out, and setting up their project. We really enjoyed doing the Master Kitz The Starry Night and look forward to trying others in the future.
