Summer Travel: Sick Just Got Real

During the summer, our family stays very busy with activities and attending fun local events.  I’m always concerned that despite our planning, something will prevent us from venturing out.  Typically what happens is one of my children will get sick.  They feel miserable, siblings feel disappointed at cancelled plans, mom and dad are both sad, and the worry starts of wondering when the next child will get sick.  I remember one year that we were venturing down to Florida and the day before leaving, several kids were coughing and feeling awful.  Getting sick before, during, or after a vacation is almost inevitable when you have kids.

Fortunately our kids have stayed healthy this summer, but when sickness strikes, I can be ready with the pediatric brands of Pfizer Consumer Healthcare  – Children’s Advil®, Children’s Robitussin® and Children’s Dimetapp®.

Children’s Advil® is a great option for kids from 2-11 years old and helps to ease the aches and pains, while also reducing a fever.  With flavors like Sugar-free Dye-free Berry, Bubble Gum, Grape, Blue Raspberry, Fruit and Dye-Free White Grape flavors, there is something for all tastebuds.

For the younger ones, Infants’ Advil® White Grape does a great job in relieving fever and pains in 6-23 month old babies.

Cough won’t quit? Children’s Robitussin® Extended-Release 12 Hour Cough Relief id available in grape or orange flavor, for children ages 4 and up and helps quite coughs both day and night. Please note, certain Children’s Robitussin® products are only suitable for children ages 6 and up.

Children’s Dimetapp® Multi-Symptom Cold Relief Dye-Free helps to ease cold symptoms with a great-tasting grape flavor that’s dye-free, for children ages 6 and up.

We had the bad flu last year. It was so horrible. It is so hard when you are Mom and really sick too. So many sleepless nights with worry.

Our poor little guy got sick while we were visiting my in-laws in Florida one Thanksgiving. We actually were planning to go to Homosassa Springs on Thanksgiving Day as a special treat and my son was SO excited to see manatees for the first time. However, he got sick the evening before and started running a fever. Thank goodness for Advil to help keep the fever under control. He was so disappointed to miss seeing the manatees next day and kept crying, “I wanted to see the manateeeeeeees.” 🙁 Thankfully, the day after Thanksgiving, he woke up with no fever and was able to see his manatees. 🙂

My grandson started not feeling well when we were out and about. We headed home and he threw up in car before we could make it. I felt so bad for him!

My son got the croup while we were at the beach. I had to sleep with him on the sofa so that we wouldn’t keep everyone awake all night.

It seems like every time we take a trip somewhere one of us gets sick. It’s like a curse. We always travel with a first aid kit and emergency medicine kit. It never fails. We always end up needing it.

The first time we travelled overseas with my daughter she was only 5 months old and got a horrible diaper rash and fever. Trying to find the right medicine for her in a country where I didn’t speak the language was terrifying! I’m still a bit scarred from that experience…
