As ya’ll know I had my wisdom teeth out last Tuesday. It’s been an okay ride. Wasn’t in as much pain as I thought and really I think it went quite well. I did learn some things and I thought I’d share those with you:
*It’s completely possible to be sick of icecream. And yogurt. And applesauce. And mashed potatoes.
*Friends will offer to bring food for your family. Real friends will remember to bring something you can eat.
*Have childcare lined up for several days after. That supermom stuff is impossible with painkillers in your system.
*Eat your favorite foods for several days before. You might as well say goodbye to them for the next couple of weeks.
*I’m entirely way too reliant on straws. I had no idea how often I was using them. Being strawless stinks.
*And lastly, REST. Use this time to catch up on the years of sleep lacking. Even if you’re feeling better, sleep for all it’s worth! As a mom, you won’t get another chance like this in the next decade.
What did you learn from your wisdom teeth removal?

Thanks for the tips! I’m having one out this Tuesday…I’ve never had a cavity or a tooth pulled so this is all new territory for me…I didn’t even think about soft stuff to eat or not using straws, childcare afterward…wowza. How long until you were off painkillers and functioning?

I had all 4 out at once. Soft stuff is definitely needed. You don’t want to get anything in the hole left behind. Straws are not allowed to prevent from getting dry socket. Google it. Not fun. Didn’t have it but heard horror stories.
Today has been the first day that I haven’t needed lots of meds. The first 3 days I used the Lortab prescribed and after that I went for ibuprofen instead. Lortab made me woozy and fall asleep so I definitely needed someone extra there with the kids. Today’s the first day of better functioning, so that’s about 5 days after.

Also wanted to add to make sure that you have salt on hand. You’ll need to wash your mouth with salt water 5 times a day.
