Happy Monday everyone!  It will be a great week!  My husband has been cleared to return to work this week after his surgery so we are rejoicing in that!  He starts back later this week!

This week, the weather looks like it’s a slight possibility for wintery weather.  That would be exciting, but I’m not holding my breath.  It is Georgia after all!  I wouldn’t mind a little snow 🙂

Here’s what we plan to make this week:

Monday: Trim Mac Salad

Tuesday: Cube Steak

Wednesday: Eggs and Sausage

Thursday: Dinner Out

Friday: Roasted Chicken, veggies

Saturday: Leftovers

Sunday: Dinner with church

My brother is a fireman.  He’s told me many things about being prepared for an emergency exit.  We have smoke alarms in every bedroom and we have even added an escape ladder to our house recently.  During the holidays, so many homes burn down due to candles, Christmas decor, heat, etc.  It’s good to be prepared.

We had a pretty great weekend!  We went to the Georgia Museum of Art, which is completely FREE!  It was pretty neat and the kids enjoyed looking at the exhibits.

My 2nd born was away at a youth retreat and we hosted a baby shower for a sweet friend.  My husband is getting stronger and hopefully getting cleared by the county doctor later this week so he can return to work soon.  We would appreciate prayers that he will be ready to go back to work.  God has been so good to us during this time, providing for our needs and providing friends to walk through this time.

The week ahead is back to school and all that jazz.  Here’s what we plan to make this week:

Monday: Spaghetti

Tuesday: Grilled chicken, brown rice, broccoli

Wednesday: Black beans and rice

Thursday: Dinner Out

Friday: Cube steak, green beans

Saturday: Bacon, eggs, biscuits

Update on My Husband’s Cancer

Just wanted to give you all an update on my husband’s cancer.  Today we went to the oncologist to hear the results of his scans and figure out what the game plan will be going forward.  I’m so happy to let you all know that they feel good about his surgery and the scans and blood work show a clean bill of health!  He will not be needing chemo or radiation after all!  His oncologist feels that any treatment right now would do more harm than good.  They give him a 85% success rate without the chemo or radiation. Even if he falls into the 15% that comes back, cure rate is 99%!!! Going forward, he will just have scans every 3 months and then the plan will be adjusted if needed.

We are so thankful to all of our friends and readers that have encouraged us along this journey and have walked through it with us.  Your emails were wonderful and encouraging.

Now he needs to finish up healing so he can be back on the road, ready to protect and serve the community.  Thanks again for everyone’s support and prayers! They were answered!!

Happy Monday everyone!  It’s already been another week.  My husband still isn’t strong enough for work quite yet.  We meet with the oncologist today to hopefully get a game plan of what’s going to happen next.  Our hope is for surgery to have been enough, however we’ve been told to prepare for possibly chemo or radiation.  I’m so ready to put all of this behind us.

Here is what we are making this week:

Monday: Brat Burgers, okra

Tuesday: Chicken and brown rice soup

Wednesday: Dinner with friends

Thursday: Macaroni with beef and onions

Friday: Kielbasa and Brussel Sprouts

Saturday: Omelettes

Sunday: Dinner with church

Happy Monday!  We are chugging right along and the weather looks gorgeous for the first half of the week.  My husband is still out on medical leave and slowly healing.  This week, he will be getting a physical and a couple scans and next week we finally see the oncologist to get a plan.  It’s been weird having him home, but knowing he can’t really help with much right now.  I think I’m going to have him help me homeschool the kids and work one on one with them during some of his time off.

I’m back to cooking again.  It was so wonderful for our church friends to have provided meals over the past couple weeks.  Here’s what is on our menu for this week:

Monday: Pork chops, brown rice, lima beans

Tuesday: Tacos

Wednesday: Chili

Thursday: Soup and sandwiches

Friday: Burgers, mac and cheese, broccoli

Saturday: Breakfast for dinner

Sunday: Dinner with friends

Update on My Husband

Where did the walking path go????

Thanks to the many of you that have reached out to see how my husband is doing since I posted about him having cancer.  He’s actually doing fairly well now.  Surgery was on December 20th and he had his staples removed yesterday.  Since staple removal, he’s moving around much more now and we were able to get in a decent walk today.  For local friends, just a heads up that the greenway was flooded in parts today!  We enjoyed our walk until the path disappeared!  The kids were a little bummed.  I think my hubby was starting to get a little tired, so it was a good point to turn around.

My husband still needs to build up his strength a little more before he goes back to work.  We haven’t received his pathology reports yet, but hopefully they will be in tomorrow and then the doctor will call with a referral to the oncologist.  We are ready to get either chemo or radiation going and put all of this behind us.

Christmas was fairly quiet.  We had some friends and family visit, but pretty much just stayed home and he stayed on mostly bedrest.  I’m so happy that he’s feeling better and helping me wrangle the kids on their break from school.  We plan to start our homeschool up again on Monday.

This might be the last Meal Plan Monday for a while because we have some friends going to bring us some meals over the next few weeks to love on us.  We found out last week that my husband has cancer.  He has surgery later this week and then will receive scans to decide if they will follow up with radiation or chemo.  My husband is very rarely sick, so this was quite a surprise to us.  The kids are all taking it in stride and we will be leaning on our friends during this time to help keep everything rolling around here.  It’s likely my husband will be out of work for a bit on medical leave while he heals from surgery and goes through the plan that his oncologist will set up.

With that being said, his cancer is very treatable and his prognosis is good.   We thank God for the good news despite the bad news.  I’m not sure how often I will be blogging through the holidays.  To be honest, I almost feel that Mommy Octopus is coming to an end.  I have less time to work on it and the kids are getting bigger.  We still love traveling and checking things out for you guys!  Who knows what this next year will bring.

We had a fantastic weekend!  My oldest 2 children went to a homeschool dance and had a magical time.  I’m so glad they will have some wonderful memories.  This week we plan to enjoy some local Christmas activities and maybe finally go see the Nutcracker.  Here’s what we plan to make this week:
