In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. This year, the week is Sunday, May 11th through Saturday, May 17th. That’s next week! My husband works for the local Sheriff’s Department so I’ve been coming up with a Police Officer Appreciation goodie bag to pass out to his fellow deputies. My goal is to make 50 bags from our family, but I think it would be super awesome if some of y’all wanted to make some as well!
Materials needed:
- Paper bags
- Ribbon spools in a thicker blue and a thin black
- Hole Punch
- Individually Wrapped Candies of the following: Lifesavers, Starburst, Payday, Hershey Kisses, Gum, Tootsie Rolls, York Peppermint Patty, Snickers, and Mounds.
First up, the printables. I have uploaded them so they are easy to print. 2 print per page and then you cut them to glue to the white bags.
Free Printables:
- Survival Kit for Sheriff’s Department
- Survival Kit for Police
- Survival Kit for Law Enforcement Officers
- Survival Kit for Soldiers
- Survival Kit for First Responders
Next, simply put together the candy needed for each bag.
Fold over the top of the bag and punch 2 holes. Using the same length of the black and blue ribbons, cut off enough to thread through the holes and tie in a nice bow. Ribbon can easily be found at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or even some Walmarts. Now all you have to do is drop off with your local department and make their day!
Thanks so much for helping to support our officers! What are you doing during police officer appreciation week?

You are so clever — this is the sweetest/cutest/most thoughtful idea I’ve seen! We are a police family (Father-in-law, and now our son), are officers and this is just the BEST idea to give these goodie bags out, so our officers know we do think about them, whether we know them or not! You are such a good person! Thank you — Linda

You have got a great idea here, this can and will lift the spirits of our law-enforcement officials if they’re having a bad day. Also they will, at the very least feel appreciated and not taken for granted. AWESOME IDEA !!!
Need more people like yourself,
Thank you,
Michael

With the officers being killed in Baton Rouge, I wanted to do something to show support for low enforcement officials. We are doing this for each one in the entire parish from State Police to city police to sheriff’s offices. We are also adding mosquito spray and sunblock. One of the Officers told me they usually didn’t have any and are frequently caught without either, suddenly stuck out in the sun with no protection. With West Nile Virus and the heat and sun of the deep south, these are lifesaver as well. Thank you so much for this idea.

I was very moved by this whole movement. My grandson is a police officer in N.C. And when I go down there in May I think I will do that for him and his fellow officers. Thanks for the idea. grandma

Excellent way to show support to all the men and women in Law Enforcement! I’ve used your Law Enforcement Officer design to create a Correction Officer Survival Kit and it was a huge hit this week for Correction Officers Week 2020.
Thanks Again!
