Lysa Terkeurst has been one of my favorite authors for several years. I’ve ready many of her books and even done some as a small group study. I can be pretty skeptical of others, so I was very excited to check out her new book, I Want To Trust You, But I Don’t.
Throughout the book, Terkeurst introduces many concepts of what may be causing distrust and skepticism. As each is dug into, she continuously points the reader back to God and what He says about us. I really liked the section about trying to control things that we don’t trust. I found certain parts relatable and other parts hard to read and a bit unrelatable. This is one of those books where I found that it is good to take what I needed and leave the rest. I think I may re-read it in a few months, though, to see what I may have missed or to digest a bit more.
In addition to the book, there is an I Want To Trust You, But I Don’t Study Guide. As with many of her books, there is a study guide to work through with a small group. This book is designed to be completed in 6 weeks, but after flipping through, I think I’d double that time. There is a video session, group discussion, followed by 5 personal studies days each week. The personal studies include scripture reading and reflection questions.
