With a house full of kids, there are always art projects happening around here. My kids love the little fuse bead sets where you can make designs, but I am not a fan of having to get the iron out and finishing them up. Many times, I end up just tossing their creations back in the bead bucket. I’m so happy to hear about Super Beads from Zirrly. They have a several different kits, but we choose to check out their Jungle Animals.
When the kit arrived, my kids immediately snagged it and ran off to start their creations. There was a lot of discussion amongst my 4 older kids of who was going to design each animal and what colors were to be used.

Our Thoughts:
At first I was thrilled with the concept of not having to iron, but then we realized that it is a little more complicated that just not ironing the Super Beads. When you put the beads on the peg boards, you have to make sure that you put the right side up, which is the side with the line.
Super Beads ended up being a little bit frustrating for my 7 and 8 year olds, so they soon gave up and went off to do something else. My 11 and 14 year olds finished up the animals and did just fine. After the projects were finished and sprayed, we put them on our outside porch to dry. This way they didn’t get accidentally bumped or destroyed. I also noticed a glue smell after we sprayed them and that was another reason for moving them outside.
After the time was up, we checked them but it seemed like they still needed to dry longer. We left them about 30 minutes longer than instructions had stated. There is a little tool to use to help get the beads off the peg board and that was super hepful.
I do like that if the projects ever come apart, I just have to re-spray them with water and they will fuse together again. The hands off approach for kids being able to complete these themselves without an iron was a great idea!
Overall, I think the Super Beads were fun, but I’m not sure we would buy them for our family in the future. As a mom of a toddler and with pets, I do have some concerns with this product because water makes the beads fuse together. I’m not sure what would happen if my toddler put them in his mouth, however the company states they are non-toxic. I definitely will be keeping it out of my toddler’s reach, as with any small item, and double check the floor whenever the big kids are finished making projects.
My big kids had fun and that’s the most important thing!
