Jungle Book Title Treatment

Heads up the THE JUNGLE BOOK is set to be available on Digital HD August 23rd, and on Blu-ray™ combo pack August 30th!  We haven’t seen the new version but love the animation!  Can’t wait to see this one!  I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m loving the fact that Disney is redoing many of our favorite animations into real life pictures!

Synopsis: 

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “Chef”) and produced by Favreau and Brigham Taylor (executive producer of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” “Tomorrowland”), “The Jungle Book” is a live-action epic adventure based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories, inspired by Disney’s classic 1967 animated film and centered on Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.

Well last week was weird.  Honestly, I didn’t get to my meal plan except maybe 1 or 2 days. It was a very busy 2nd week of school, my husband had mandatory overtime, and for most of the week, it was just fix yourself whatever or pour a bowl of cereal.  We all have weeks like that!  This week, I’m going to try to get back in the groove of things.

Review: The Amazing Dr. Ransom’s Bestiary of Adorable Fallacies

We were asked by Timberdoodle to take a look at The Amazing Dr. Ransom’s Bestiary of Adorable Fallacies.  This book boasts as a field guide for clear thinkers.  I was eager to take a look at this book, although I admit that I honestly didn’t know what to expect.

First, off the bat, this book is geared toward high school and adults.  In the book, adultery, abortion, and other strong topics are mentioned and discussed while reviewing fallacies, so make sure you are aware and ready for that if you choose to work through the book with younger students.  Mine aren’t quite there yet, but I think this would be very benefital to helping  your high school aged kids understand the logic and fallacies behind many of the heavy topics and even helping them to engage others in discussion.  The concepts were presented in a humorous matter and the pictures are quite entertaining to show each fallacy as an adorable creature, ready to strike.

The Amazing Dr. Ransom’s Bestiary of Adorable Fallacies’ stories and descriptions gives teens a thorough grasp of 50 informal fallacies, each followed up with a few short discussion questions and exercises that offer real world examples.  Plus both one- and two-semester schedules are included in the back of the book.  Tests and quizzes are available at the publisher’s website for free.

Educator Open House with Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and Center for Civil and Human Rights

On Saturday, Aug. 27, World of Coca-Cola is hosting Educator Open House in partnership with Georgia Aquarium and Center for Civil and Human Rights. Local educators, including homeschool teachers, are invited to come see why the attractions should be their next field trip destinations.

Attending educators visit the attractions for free from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and may bring one guest, also free of charge. (You may purchase tickets for additional guests.) Pre-registration is required, and space is limited, so interested educators should register as soon as possible at http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/experience/learn/school-programs/educators/educator-open-house. A valid teacher ID is required for entry to the event, and homeschool teachers may bring a copy of their Letter of Intent.

We have found WaterWipes to be very durable and effective, even though it doesn’t contain any of the harmful chemicals found in other brands of wipes. WaterWipes proves a safer, natural option for our son.  Especially if he has a diaper rash, these are top on my list.  Much more gentle to clean that other brands and far less fussing during changes.  They are very soft, too, but thick enough so I don’t end up with a mess on my hands.

We have been at the pool so much this summer, especially with all the 90 degree days we have been having.  Taking 5 kids to the pool is no easy feat, though!  It requires towels, sunscreen, toys, swim diapers, extra diapers, wipes, etc.  Thirty-One Gifts has me covered with one of their new products, that they graciously sent for us to check out!

This tote isn’t huge, but it can carry a bunch!  Inside and outside are numerous pockets and it has a zippered closure to keep everything contained.  I have been very pleasantly impressed on how much of our stuff it can hold.  The two exterior cinch pockets are great for drinks, bottles or everyday items.

The perfect companion to this tote is the Glamour Case, which we use to hold sunscreen, extra diapers, and wipes.  It helps to keep some of the smaller things organized, and if needed, I could just grab the Glamour Case if the baby needs a quick diaper change.

What a wonderful weekend!  We started off with a trip to Funopolis for a review, so I’ll be posting more on that later.  Then, we celebrated my oldest daughter turning 13 with her friends.  She had a Fiesta and we made a fun piñata cake.  It’s a cake with candy in the middle – so much fun!

We had a great weekend of festivities, but now back to the grind of homeschool and work.  This week, here’s what I plan to make for our dinners:

Tuesday: Fried Chicken, Zucchini Fritters (Birthday Girl’s choice)

Thursday: Lazy Lasagna
