Being a mother of five, I’ve found that this time around, a lot of new moms are asking me for advice on how to care for their little ones. It’s actually a weird place for me to be, realizing that I’m now the mom people are turning to for help instead of me seeking help from other moms. It’s weird how life makes a circle like this. My oldest turns 13 this year and the baby is 8 months old today. Time really just flies.
To all my new mom friends, here’s the best advice I can give:
Enjoy your baby. Rock them, snuggle them, breathe them. It’s over all too fast. Ignore the people that suggest you are spoiling your baby.
The first few weeks are the hardest. I have found that weeks 2-5 are when you can really see what you are made of! You’re tired, baby isn’t sleeping as much, routines aren’t set yet, and emotions and hormones are at an all time high. In the midst of this, when you are almost at your breaking point, that is when your sweet baby will start to smile. And then you melt and fall in love all over again!
Take time and care for your marriage. Make sure to bring baby into the relationship and not push daddy out. Show daddy ways that he can help so you can get some rest. My husband is fantastic about knowing when I’m close to my breaking point and taking the baby out for a bit so I can get some rest. Go on dates with your little “chaperone” and enjoy some time together.
Accept help from friends. I always make the mistake of trying to bounce back to normal far too quickly instead of resting and accepting help from other. When offered, accept it! Dinners, laundry help, sibling help, all of this is wonderful so you can bond with the new baby
Speaking of laundry, Dreft has 3 products: Dreft Stage 1: Newborn; Dreft Stage 2: Active Baby and Dreft Blissfuls to help make the transition to parenthood easier. We are currently using Dreft Stage 2: Active Baby for my 8 month old. He’s always on the move and food stains happen! I love that Dreft gets the stains out and is gentle for my son.
Dreft is partnering with popular reality TV couple Sean and Catherine Lowe from “The Bachelor” to celebrate their new role as expectant parents and share their beautiful, messy journey of “amazinghood.”
Sean and Catherine Lowe had a Dreft “Loads of Love” baby shower recently – where the couple was showered with all the love, support and essentials needed to prepare them for their upcoming baby. Over the next year, everyone can share in the Lowe’s journey through #Amazinghood by following Dreft on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter where Sean and Catherine will be sharing exclusive content and messy memories. How fun will that be!
