Meal Plan Monday
It’s Monday! I’m so thankful that my husband had this past weekend off so we could have some much needed family time. Over the weekend, we celebrated my nephew’s 8th birthday! This week ahead is another one loaded full of homeschool adventures, gymnastics, library trips, a baby shower for a friend and another birthday party for a friend! Seems that the older the kids get, the more we have to do! I love the busyness but thankful for calmer days. Here’s what we plan to make this week:
Monday: Beef and zucchini
Tuesday: Chicken, Steamed Veggies
Wednesday: Potato Soup
Thursday: Chicken, brown rice
Friday: Fajitas
Saturday: Taco Pie
Sunday: Crock Pot Chicken
What are you making this week?
How to Save Money Buying Used Homeschool Curriculum
This past summer I went to a used homeschool curriculum sale. As you all know, I’m all about saving money, especially on curriculum. It gets so expensive with multiple children.
Through the sale I attended and through some online dealings, I have a few tips to offer to the rest of you when buying used homeschool curriculum. Most of the time, you can buy used and save the difference, but you need to know what to watch.
Tips on Buying Used Homeschool Curriculum:
- Be sure and check the edition of the item you want to buy. Many editions may be old and the workbooks or answer keys may be obsolete or not available. Triple check that it is the current edition or the edition that you need to buy. A quick look at the vendor’s website should help answer that for you. Nothing worse than paying money out for something only to find out that you can’t use it and then have the hassle of trying to sell it to someone else.
- Make sure you thumb through the items you are intending to buy used. Check for pen/pencil marks and missing pages. I bought a book at this sale that was labeled as new and when I got it home, it was missing a bunch of pages. It wasn’t obvious because they weren’t all in a row, just several here and there. I had taken their word for it and not checked it myself.
- When buying online, require that the seller double check the item for you as far as edition, and if possible send lots of photos. I bought a teacher’s manual from someone online that was described as like new. When I received it, they had cut the binding off and it was a huge stack of unbound papers! I was pretty upset! Now I have it in a huge 3 ring binder that takes up more room on my homeschool shelf than the book would have taken. I recommend paying through paypal online so you do have some coverage if the items aren’t shipped.
- Compare prices to original price. Remember that many things do go on sale throughout the year. Is it still a deal? Also take in the price of shipping as well. Sometimes gently used even at close to full price can be a savings when compared to new plus the cost of shipping.
Where to Buy:
- HomeschoolClassifieds.com – Search for the item needed and then email the seller to make purchase arrangements.
- Ebay
- Facebook: Find local homeschool pages and list what is needed. As always, meet up in a safe place.
- Amazon: Save a bunch by buying used on Amazon.
- Local Co-ops: Reach out to local homeschool co-ops and find out if they will be having a sale.
- Friends: Ask other homeschooling moms for what you need. Sometimes they may even let you borrow!

Our Thoughts:
We have had fun with the FlipStir puzzle, but I must say that it is much more challenging than it appears! It took me a while to assemble the puzzle, much longer than I expected. Out of the kids, only 1 of mine have been able to put the puzzle together, but not for a lack of trying! It’s definitely been a challenge. A couple kids did get frustrated with it but have kept going back to try and complete the puzzle.
The FlipStir Puzzle is a great toy to take along on car rides or traveling to keep little hands busy. We are happy we had the chance to check out this puzzle and are eager to see if Enlivenze LLC brings out more puzzles in the future.

Review: Funopolis Family Fun Center
We recently took the family to Funopolis Family Fun Center in Commerce, GA. We have been here only once before and it was a huge hit with the kids. We were eager to go back and review it for you guys. Big thanks to U.S Family Guide for helping us to provide this Funopolis Family Fun Center Review.
For reference, we were give the 3 hour wrist bands, a $5 game card, a slice of pizza and a drink for each person in our family.
About the 3 Hour Wrist Bands:
Includes unlimited: Go Karts or Mini Go Karts, Mini Golf, Tornado Ride or Pirate Ship, Rock Wall, Bumper Cars, Spider Zone Hip Hop Ride, 2 Sessions of Laser Tag.
Seasonal Attractions: Bumper Boats, Water Wars (2 buckets), & Down Pour Derby (2 dunks)
Discounts are available when you buy as a family 4 pack, and more people can be added for an extra charge if you have additional family members. Pricing is available on their website.
Our Thoughts:
I thought that 3 hours would be plenty of time, but we had so much fun we were wanting more time! 3 hours can go by super quick when you’re having that much fun! When we go again, I plan on buying the all day unlimited pass.
There was something for everyone to do, from my 13 year old down to the baby, but keep in mind if you have several littles, you will want to take an extra adult or 2 so everyone can take turns riding the go-carts.
My 7 year old daughter’s favorite part was surprisingly the rock wall. She had never been on one before and managed to complete both the beginning and intermediate levels and climbed halfway up the hard level!
We filled the rest of our time slot with laser tag, bumper boats, bumper cars, mini golf, go-karts, bowling, and more! We definitely want to go back and do mini golf again when it isn’t so hot. We only made it through the first couple holes before we remembered it was a 90 plus degree day in Georgia 🙂
Afterward, we enjoyed some fresh pizza from the cafe. It actually was pretty good and wasn’t the typical cheap “cardboard pizza” that you find in many food courts. We enjoyed it.
Lastly, we hit the game room. There are tons of varieties of games and they all have a different price. The game room is accessed using your play card to start the games. The play card even holds all of your ticket values!
Interested in checking out Funopolis? Head on over to their website to find out more and even locate coupons and specials. Also as we get closer to fall, they will be offering their haunted house with Fearopolis.
Giveaway: THE JUNGLE BOOK
Heads up the THE JUNGLE BOOK is set to be available on Digital HD August 23rd, and on Blu-ray™ combo pack August 30th! We haven’t seen the new version but love the animation! Can’t wait to see this one! I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m loving the fact that Disney is redoing many of our favorite animations into real life pictures!
Synopsis:
Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2,” “Chef”) and produced by Favreau and Brigham Taylor (executive producer of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” “Tomorrowland”), “The Jungle Book” is a live-action epic adventure based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories, inspired by Disney’s classic 1967 animated film and centered on Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat.
