My 2 little girls have a case of the stickers…. and it’s apparently highly contagious 🙂 It also normally appears after Grandma comes over.
Do your kids love stickers as well? Have you ever found any stuck in weird places?
We can all use a few more hands

I recently had a reader ask me about Groupon Getaways. Are they for real? Can you really take a trip for THAT low of a price?
The answer? ABSOLUTELY! And I’m proof that it’s so!
A couple weeks ago we bought a deal for a hotel in Helen, GA (no longer available). We called and made our reservation with ease and the hotel was prepared for the Groupon callers. When we arrived, we simply handed over our certificates and were good to go. Our hotel room was just as described, if not better. And as you can tell, we had a BLAST!
We’ve used Groupon Getaways 3 times now and I love it! It’s always fun to try out a new place at a discounted price.
Will you have to sit through a timeshare presentation? NO! Unless for some reason that’s in the terms, but I have never seen in it a Groupon Getaway terms like I have on other sites. It’s always been a very easy and pleasant experience.
I will suggest that whenever you do purchase a getaway that you look at all the fine print. Sometimes they are only good on certain dates. Sometimes there are extra fees for certain things. For this particular giveaway, we just had to pay tax when we arrived and that was it. Often the certificates are stackable, meaning that you can use several of them in the same visit.
Here are some of the current deals you can grab now. CLICK HERE to see all of the available deals:
Savannah, GA: Country Inn & Suites $53 for 1 night, $99 for 2 nights! Combine up to 6 nights! Had indoor pool!
Kissimmee, FL: Comfort Inn Maingate – $55 for 1 night or $110 for 2 nights with a FREE pizza. Combine up to 4 nights! Includes shuttle to Disney World!
Outer Banks, NC – Ramada Plaza Nags Head Beach – prices as low as $44 a NIGHT! Includes indoor pool!
As you can see, the deals are great, you just have to look and see what is best for your family. Every Tuesday they pop up with a whole bunch of new deals and some will sell out. Keep checking and you’ll find the right one for you.

This boy has had a loose tooth. Very loose. His first one. For days. This is my child that turns white as a sheet and nearly passes out at the sight of blood. The fact of him having a loose tooth caused all sorts of drama around here…. “Mommy, I don’t want it to fall out”, “Mommy I want it out NOW”, “Mommy pull it out!”, “Mommy DON’T!!!”. It’s been an interesting journey. To top it all off, he was really freaked about the idea of having a hole where the tooth used to be and of course the blood.
I asked advice on the Mommy Octopus facebook page the other day about how to get him to move past the fear of losing a tooth and got some great feedback. You guys rock, by the way!
We ended up trying to redirect him as much as possible away from the fear, read books about loose teeth, and had big sister talk to him about how it wasn’t bad. We even fed him corn on the cob and many apples with the hopes it would pop right out.
No luck. Finally last night after Awanas, he was begging me to pull it out since it kept bleeding. I used a reader’s tip of a little orajel to numb it a touch, cold washcloth, and it came right out! YAY!
My son was so super excited to have it out! And I admit I’m a touch sad that my sweet little boy is growing way too fast, but we’re enjoying every minute! Thanks again everyone who posted tips the other day!

My grandfather recently moved to the area and he absolutely LOVES Butter Pecan Cookies. With my son’s allergy, store bought cookies are out of the picture. I don’t mind baking, in fact, I love baking! I looked around and found a couple recipes that looked intriguing but nothing that sounded perfect. I mixed and matched and came up with my own recipe. I might add that my kitchen smells absolutely wonderful right now!
The only problem? Between the 4 kids (and okay I may have had a couple myself), we are going to have to make Grandpa his own batch! They were THAT popular! Hopefully there is one or two left for hubby to try when he gets home.
Ready to make your own? Here goes:

I’ve been struggling lately trying to make sure my husband gets a good breakfast before he leaves for work, especially since a kid or two is usually awake by the time he’s heading out. I had seen several different recipes online for making breakfast burritos, but I needed something that was completely from scratch due to my son’s allergy. You know when you make something for Dad, everyone wants to try it!
First up, I made some tortillas. These actually ended up being much easier and tastier than I expected!
Tortilla Ingredients:
First up, combine the flour and the baking powder in one bowl. Add the butter. It’s best to use your hands to combine these ingredients. Set aside.
Dissolve the salt in the warm water and pour over the flour mixture. Again, use your hands, working everything together and ending up with a large bowl. Cover and set aside for 10 minutes.
Heat up a frying pan over medium heat.
Divide the dough into 12 small balls. Flatten each one into a circle using a rolling pin on a floured surface, making it as thin as possible.
Making circles can be complicated. Some of mine weren’t quite circular, but it was about 11pm so I no longer cared 🙂
Put flattened dough in frying pan, cooking for 20 seconds and then flipping to the other side and also cooking for 20 seconds. Remove and add next tortilla.
Once the 12 tortillas are done, now comes the fun part of making the filling! The filling can be pretty much whatever you want it to be. My husband loves eggs and sausage, so that’s what I filled them with this time.
Filling Ingredients:
Cook the sausage, onions, and peppers until done and drain. As far as how much to use of peppers and onions, that’s up to you. Everyone has different desires. We used about a half a bag of a frozen pepper/onion blend. Feel free to throw in mushrooms, bacon, or whatever else you want to add!
Once the sausage and veggies are done and drained, stir in the scrambled eggs and cook. Turn off the stove when the eggs are done and then stir in the cheese.
Place a scoop in each tortilla and roll up like a burrito!
Use immediately or freeze! Wrap in plastic wrap or in a freezer bag and squeeze out the extra air. To eat, simply microwave 50 seconds and then flip. Microwave another 50 seconds. Enjoy!

You know those little beads that you make into shapes and then iron that we did growing up? They still make them! And kids still love them! Today my two oldest have been making all sorts of designs and fun shapes. Until recently, I never knew that they actually had a name! They are called Perler Beads.
If you don’t know what they are, they are simple little beads that you arrange on a pegboard and then iron to make the design keep it’s shape.
My son made me a cupcake from the Perler Beads today. I love it! Even better, it’s super sweet and carb free 🙂 I typically stick a magnet to the back and use them to hold papers and stuff to the fridge.
If you’re looking for Perler Beads for your kids, you can find some on Amazon at pretty decent prices!
Perler Beads 6,000 Count Bucket-Multi Mix for just $8.90, down from $11.79
Perler Beads 11,000 Count-Multi-Mix for just $12.97, down from $17.29
And tons more! CLICK HERE to see all the ones available on Amazon.
Another idea is to take the 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon found HERE and pick some up in the store. I prefer just ordering online because I know if I go in Hobby Lobby, I may never come out 🙂

I had posted on the Mommy Octopus facebook page that we have been working on re-purposing a dresser into a bookshelf. I’m happy to say it’s finally done! It actually was much easier than I thought and cost way less than having to buy a new bookshelf. Plus this was a sturdy dresser, so we’ve got a nice sturdy bookshelf now, unlike the stuff sold in the stores.
We started with a 5 drawer dresser that was given to us 10 years ago when we got married. It was used then and no longer matches our decor. First we removed all the drawers. Here’s a before photo with the dresser turned on it’s side.
Next we removed all the drawer hardware and railings except for the bottom and 2 of the drawer supports.
We installed plywood shelves and braces to support them.
Next came the fun part! Sanding, priming, and then finally painting the dresser black. Lastly we added a new drawer pull and pull the bottom drawer back in.
Lastly, we moved it into our bedroom, and filled it up! I’m loving how it turned out! It really was a pretty cheap project. Just cost a quart of paint, plywood (that we have some leftover to use on another project), shelf braces, and a drawer pull! Cheaper than new plus it’s exactly what I wanted, not having to settle for someone else’s idea.
Next project? Making a headboard for our bed!

If you are looking for a good program to use with your kids this summer so they don’t forget what they have learned in school, I highly recommend checking out the Summer Bridge Activities Books. I’ve been using them the past few years and they are great for “bridging” over from one grade to the next. The kids find them fun as well instead of just boring book work. Amazon has most of them priced around $10, down from $14.95 and shipping is free with Amazon Prime or with a $25 purchase. I just bought two of them for my older 2 kids to do this summer. They’ve already been asking when their new Summer Bridge Activities Books will be here. Looks like they have everything available from going in to Kindergarten to 8th grade.

If you are looking for something to do with or without the kids, the Athens, GA Chick-fil-A is now offering Backstage Tours at the Atlanta Hwy location. If you aren’t near here, check with your local Chick-fil-A and inquire if they will be offering anything similar.
I took my kids on the tour today and it was cute and fun. The manager was the one guiding us through the store. We donned nifty CFA hats and backstage passes. We learned a little of the history of CFA and then were able to go back in the kitchen to see how they make the chicken. We saw one worker making lemonade. Did you know CFA purchases and uses the most lemons than any company in the US? That’s some good lemonade!
After the tour, the kids were able to make their own ice cream cone, which of course was the highlight of the tour.
If you are local to Athens, GA, you can reserve your spot today and receive full details about your free Tour Experience by emailing chickfila3637 @ gmail dot com. Again, if you aren’t in the area, please contact your local restaurant to see if they will be offering tours.

Every year during strawberry season, the kids and I love making strawberry pies. They are so simple and incredibly delicious. Even better, you don’t have to heat up the house to make this! All you need is a few simple ingredients:
Wash and slice the strawberries and arrange in the graham cracker pie crust.
Make the jello according to instructions on the box and pour while still hot over the strawberries. You want to come close to the top of the graham cracker crust, but not over. Pour remaining jello into a airtight container and store in the fridge for a later snack.
Move the pie to the fridge and allow to cool an hour or two while the jello sets.
Serve with whipped cream and enjoy!
