Memoria Press
I love being part of the Homeschool Review crew.  It’s always fun to check out new homeschool material for my children.  The next thing on the list to review are these two American history sets that greatly complements each other.  Our friends at Memoria Press generously provided us with The Story of the Thirteen Colonies & the Great Republic Set and 200 Questions About American History Set for us to review for you guys.

About the Products:

The Story of the Thirteen Colonies & the Great Republic Set
The Story of the Thirteen Colonies & the Great Republic Set is made with middle schoolers in mind and consists of a teacher’s guide, student’s guide, and a text book.  Each lesson has several “Facts To Know” about the subject that help explain key figures or words.  Next comes vocabulary, comprehension questions, and an enrichment section to further knowledge.  There are 32 lessons in this book set.  The teacher’s guide has the answers for the student guide and also a tests and keys section.  Maps and copies of important documents and speeches are also included.  The text book is simply The Story of the Thirteen Colonies and the Great Republic by H.A. Guerber.  There are 85 chapters but each chapter is very short and is fairly easy reading.

200 Questions About American History Set Grades 5-8
200 Questions About American History Set is a supplement to the set above and features a list of 200 questions that everyone should know about American history.  This set includes flashcards, a student book, and a teacher’s guide.  This course is designed to be used over 32 weeks and has a couple book recommendations to go along with it.  Tests and Keys are also included with the teacher guide in this set.

Our Thoughts:

History has never been my thing so I was happy to check out a program that would help me to teach history to my children.  I really appreciate that these 2 sets work together to teach facts and help your students to remember what they have learned.  Inside the 200 Questions about American History Teacher’s Guide, there is a recommended weekly schedule.  We were able to follow the schedule fairly close.  It has chapters listed for reading and which drill questions go along with those chapters.  The chapters are fairly short and read like a book, so that made learning easier.

To work both courses, simply look at The Story of the Thirteen Colonies & The Great Republic student book to see which chapters are covered in a particular lesson.  Do the lesson once you have read those chapters and then review your drill questions and take any appropriate quizzes or tests.  Pretty simple once you see how they work together.

I really like that the lessons cover more than just history by working in vocabulary and research topics as well.  I read the chapters to my 2 bigger kids and then my oldest did the lessons.  She didn’t seem to mind and quite enjoyed all the enrichment projects.  We worked at a pace of about 2-3 lessons a week and it seemed to be enough.  We were able to review our flashcards daily during the week.

Review: The Critical Thinking Co.™ Fun-Time Phonics!™ Software

Language Arts {The Critical Thinking Co.™}
Phonics is something that can take a lot of practice.  Both my 1st grader and Kindergartener are working a ton of phonics lately in our homeschool.  We were thankful to have been given the opportunity to review  Fun-Time Phonics!™ Software – 2-PCs Win Download which is part of the Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic Before Kindergarten!™ software bundle from The Critical Thinking Co.™.

About the Product:

Fun-Time Phonics!™ Software – 2-PCs Win Download is a downloadable comprehensive reading program that can be used by multiple students in your home.  With the license, you are able to add it to two computers.  This program is geared toward children in preschool through second grade.

The program emphasizes sound/spelling patterns, vocabulary, and comprehension, not memorization, which comes in handy for children who aren’t great at memorization.  The focus is more on vowel isolation in order to read.

You can check out the video below to see more:

The app is composed of these four sections:

  • Section 1: Teaches children that words are made up with sounds. Activities include beginning sounds, ending sounds, vowel sounds, and words that rhyme.
  • Section 2: Teaches children each short vowel sound and the letter that makes that sound.
  • Section 3: This section teaches consonant-vowel coarticulation, so children learn that each consonant uses short vowels to make different sounds that are used to form words that are read.
  • Section 4: Teaches children to combine their new knowledge of consonant-vowel coarticulation and ending sounds to read their first words.

Right now the program is only available for Windows computers, but an iPad version coming soon.  Due to the large amount of audio files involved in the learning features of this program, the installed Windows program requires approx. 500 MB of disk space.  You can purchase this program for $29.99 on The Critical Thinking Co.™ website.

img_4175

My Thoughts:

I like the program.  During the review period, my daughters were working on beginning and ending sounds and what is similar in various words.  It keeps phonics basic, however my little girls were not really thrilled with it.  It seemed more like a chore and/or work to get them to work on the program through the week.  They did do the program, though.

My Kindergartener had trouble getting pass some of the quizzes.  She would get frustrated having to play lessons over and over again, but I liked this feature.  So many other programs will just move my children along even if they aren’t able to finish the quiz.  I like that this one makes her redo the lesson.  Even though this program says it is for preK through 2nd, I don’t think I would recommend starting it before Kindergarten unless you have an early reader.

My 1st grader did well with it.  I like that it is reinforcing what she has already learned in phonics so far.  Getting a review is always great!  I know as she progresses, it will move along to lessons and topics that she hasn’t learned so far.

Overall, I like the Fun-Time Phonics!™ Software.  I can see that they are learning and making strides.  I will keep them on the program to get more phonics practice.

With 5 kids in the house, homeschooling,  gymnastics, scouts, co-ops, and more, dinner can be quite hectic around here at times!  I have been checking out the MyFreezEasy.com Freezer Meal Plan Membership from MyFreezEasy as part of the Homeschool Review Crew.

MyFreezEasy.com Freezer Meal Plan Membership {MyFreezEasy}

Our Experience:

MyFreezEasy.com has been my first experience with a freezer cooking meal plan.  I often make our meals doubled so I can freeze and extra pan of something, but hadn’t considered taking the time to make a big batch of meals to keep in the freezer.

MyFreezEasy.com Freezer Meal Plan Membership {MyFreezEasy}
Right off the bat, I was thrilled with the way you can choose recipes on the website.  With the membership we were given, I was able to select and remove meals that didn’t sound appealing to our family.  For September, I chose from the All Chicken Plan since we mostly eat chicken and chicken has been on sale here lately.  For the October plan, I chose the Slow Cooker Meal Plan.

We went with the following meals from September:

  • Bacon & Ranch Chicken
  • Basil Balsamic Chicken
  • Chicken Fajita Bake
  • Chicken Pineapple Curry
  • Slow Cooker Butter Chicken

October’s Slow Cooker Meal Plan featured these meals:

  • Slow Cooker Italian Chicken & Vegetables
  • Slow Cooker Red Pepper Chicken
  • Slow Cooker Island Chicken
  • Slow Cooker Simple Baby Beef Stew
  • Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches.

I really like that the shopping list is included and that with the premium membership, I can select to feed more than 4 people and receive the conversions for a larger group.  That comes in handy when you’re a family of 7 plus Grandma most nights.

img_3468

Chicken Fajita Bake – This was a hit with the family!

We enjoyed the meals that we tried, however I would have appreciated a little more flavor.  Since we have been mostly cooking from scratch over the past 6 years after finding out about my son’s allergy, I have learned how wonderful it is to pull from the spice cabinet instead of store-bought packets and mixes.

I agree with the concept and that the recipes are pretty simple.  Perfect for a busy family.  Having frozen meals ready to heat and serve comes in handy when you’re looking to minister to friends going through hard times as well.  You could simply pull out a meal to cook for them, or you could simply provide the frozen meal and instructions for them to cook when needed.  Definitely a wonderful service!

Review: If You Were Me and Lived in…

October 5, 2016 By MommyOctopus Leave a Comment
By clicking my links, I may earn a small commission to support this blog. Please see our Disclosure Policy.

I absolutely love writing reviews with the Homeschool Review Crew!  I especially love getting new and educational books for the kids to read.  I am so excited to share with you about four new books I received, brought to you by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com.

The books are:

  • If You Were Me and Lived in… Elizabethan England (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 3)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…the American West (Volume 7)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…the Middle Ages (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 6)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…Ancient Greece (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 1)

About the Books:

Carole P. Roman actually has eight books out in the “If You Were Me and Lived in…” series!  We were just given 4 of these to check out.  The 8 titles in the series are

  • If You Were Me and Lived in…Ancient Greece (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 1)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…Renaissance Italy (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 2)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in… Elizabethan England (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 3)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…Colonial America (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 4)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…Ancient China: The Han Dynasty
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…the Middle Ages (An Introduction to Civilizations Throughout Time) (Volume 6)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…the American West (Volume 7)
  • If You Were Me and Lived in…Viking Europe

Each of the books discusses about life in the time and place of the title.

My Thoughts:

If You Were Me and Lived in ... {by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com}
In If You Were Me and Lived in… Elizabethan England, you can journey back to the year 1578.  The book describes in vivid detail about what life was like back then and in that time.  I found many of the facts interesting like meat wasn’t allowed to be eaten on Friday or Saturday in order to support the fishing industry.  I’m not a fan of fish at all, so I suppose I would have just filled up on the veggies!  I also found it interesting that tomatoes were considered poisonous!  How different that is from current day!
If You Were Me and Lived in ... {by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com}
If You Were Me and Lived in…the American West our favorite of the 4 books we were provided.  The illustrations were beautiful and really helped to create imagery of what it would have been like during that time.  My kids were fascinated at all the chores that children were required to do each day!  Milk the cow, gather wood and buffalo chips, wash dishes, bring water from the river, skin animals, etc.
If You Were Me and Lived in ... {by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com}
If You Were Me and Lived in…Ancient Greece takes place around 2,300 years ago in around 350 BC during the Classical Period.  This book talks about the different Greek gods and the beliefs during this time frame.  We found it interesting that most days, people would eat just bread, cheese, olives, figs, and grapes.  It was really fascinating to learn about what they drank.  They didn’t drink plain water like we do.  They would mix it with wine to kill off germs!  So watered down wine with each meal!

If You Were Me and Lived in ... {by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com}
If You Were Me and Lived in…the Middle Ages circles around the year 1072, during the Medieval or Middle Ages, which lasted until the Renaissance period.  This book gives background on the Roman Empire and Europe.  I really appreciate that this and other books in the series have pronunciations listed to help in learning new vocabulary relative to the times.  My kids found it intriguing that children in this time just dreamed of going to visit a town in order to shop and that at just 7 years old, children could start learning a trade.

These books turned out to be really educational for our family and now my kids are wanting to learn more about these times.  I think that these books would be the perfect addition to any history curriculum.  We will be checking out the other books as we continue our studies through history.

Ultimate Phonics Reading Program {Spencer Learning}
As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, we had the opportunity to check out the Ultimate Phonics Reading Program from Spencer Learning with our children.

About the Product:

Ultimate Phonics Reading Program is a downloadable software program that helps people of all ages become better readers.  It’s not just for kids!

You can watch the Ultimate Phonics Quick Demo video below to see firsthand what Spencer Learning offers.

The program has over 7,000 pages divided into 262 lessons!  That’s a lot of information!

There are six types of pages:

1) Pattern pages
2) Idea pages
3) Word List pages
4) Word pages
5) Sight Word pages
6) Sentence pages

The pages in a lesson are organized into four parts:

1) A Pattern or Idea page
2) A set of Word List pages
3) A set of Word pages
4) A set of Sentence pages

You can try out a week of Ultimate Phonics Reading Program for free and can find that information on their website.  Once you decide on buying the full version, you will be able to install the program on every computer in your home.  It also can be used with every person in the house!  Just a one time cost.

screen-shot-2016-09-27-at-1-11-13-pm

Our Thoughts:

We have been using the Ultimate Phonics Reading Program with my 7 year old over the last few weeks.  She is my most struggling reader right now.  In hind sight, I think I should have went ahead and started it with my 9 year old as well, just to get better at phonics decoding skills.  I plan to start that today.

img_3208

Honestly, my 7 year old wasn’t a fan of the program at first.  She found it slow and boring, however after some encouragement, she doesn’t mind as much.  I’m seeing that her reading IS improving just after these few weeks of working on the program.  If you are looking for something cartoonish and exciting, this is not that program.  However, if you want something that is more serious and will actually help your child with phonics, this is what you want.

I am super thrilled that the purchase is a one time purchase.  This is fantastic news for large(r) families that would like several students to use the program.  The only improvement that I would like to see them make is an app for iPad or Android so that we could take the lessons with us.  We can take our laptop with us to do lessons on the go, and since it’s a downloaded program, we do not have to have the internet in order to use it.  That’s definitely a plus.

I will be continuing this program with my children and I’m thankful that I was able to learn more about such a wonderful phonics program.

Review: The Pray-ers: Book 1 “Troubles”

September 20, 2016 By MommyOctopus Leave a Comment
By clicking my links, I may earn a small commission to support this blog. Please see our Disclosure Policy.

The Pray-ers / Book 1 Troubles

I’ve been reading The Pray-ers / Book 1 Troubles, written by Mark S. Mirza and published by CTM Publishing Atlanta, over the past couple weeks as part of the Homeschool Review Crew.  The book sounded intriguing so I was eager to read it.

About the Author:

The author, Mark S. Mirza, led the men’s prayer ministry for Dr. Charles Stanley at First Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.  Through his website, he desires to help teach men how to start prayer groups.

About the Book:

The Pray-ers is a fictional book Through the book, author Mark S. Mirza shows the depth of the prayer lives of three different people in different eras.  It covers the First Century, 19th Century, and Current Day.  The people followed through the book are Epaphras (from the Bible), a track coach from UGA, and a pastor.  The Pray-ers shows the dynamics of what may be happening in the spiritual realm between demons and angels that humans can’t see and how prayer relates to circumstances.

My Thoughts:

Overall, I enjoyed the read, but it was quite hard to follow.  Bouncing back and forth between characters in the beginning was difficult trying to remember which one was doing what and to not get them confused.

The other thing that I wanted to point out is that the book starts out very slow.  It drags and was almost painful to read, but as the book progressed, I enjoyed it more.

Throughout The Pray-ers, different Bible verses were worked into the dialog.  I appreciated how the scripture references were noted at the bottom of the pages throughout so I could look back in my Bible to see the full verse.

It’s also important to note that this is not a children’s book, so I wouldn’t recommend allowing your children to read it until they are young adults due to some of the topics discussed throughout.

One thing I noticed off the bat is that the book needs further editing.  I noticed several typos that need to be addressed in future versions.

As a final note, I wasn’t able to finish the book before I writing this review, but I do plan to finish it.  I’m about halfway through.  It’s a pretty heavy read so it’s something that I try to read after the kids are in bed so I can focus.  Definitely not a light read, but it really made me think and I appreciate that.

Apologia: Exploring Creation with Astronomy Review

When I was planning this school year, I was trying to decide what we wanted to do for science.  When the opportunity came up for us to review Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition from Apologia Educational Ministries,  I was thrilled!  The kids have been asking to learn more about Astronomy and this gave us the perfect chance!

Apologia: Exploring Creation with Astronomy Review

About the Product:

Children can explore the galaxy using the new and revised Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition.  Packed full of hands-on activities to introduce elementary aged children to the Universe using a Biblical base.  Available for purchase is the Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition textbook, Notebooking Journal, Junior Notebooking Journal, Audio CD, and the Science Kit.

In the second edition textbook and notebooking journals, you will find:

• Biblical wisdom used throughout the textbook

• All new full-color illustrations
• Space to journal each textbook and notebook activity

Our Thoughts:

For review, we received the Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition textbook, a Notebooking Journal, Junior Notebooking Journal, and the Audio CD.

We have been using Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition for about 6 weeks now as part of our 2016-2017 homeschool adventures and we have been super pleased!

Apologia: Exploring Creation with Astronomy Review

Even though this product is geared toward elementary age students, I’ve been working on it with all 4 of my big kids, and just having my elementary schoolers do the notebooking journals. The notebooking journals have been a wonderful edition to the textbook and provide lots of hands-on activities, instruction, and experiments.  There are places to record observations from experiments or write down interesting facts that you would like to remember.  The Notebooking Journal is geared toward children ages 3rd-6th grade and the Junior Notebooking Journal is geared toward children ages K-3rd.  I believe they are right on track with the grade levels for the journals.  The Junior Notebooking Journal has fun coloring sheets intermixed with the projects and the Notebooking Journal has more writing opportunities.  Both can be done simultaneously if you have multiple students of different ages like I do.  In the journals, there is a schedule to help pace out your year and provide time for the experiments and the reading.  That has been very helpful for me as a parent to make sure we stay on track.

The kids eagerly look forward to science time during our homeschool day.  So far, we have learned about parts of the solar system, the planets, the sun, and have done some great projects like build a 3D solar system out of balloons!

Right in the textbook, you will find experiments and projects to help bring all the science knowledge to life right before your eyes. I also really appreciate how Apologia circles everything back to our Creator so we can see His hand in everything in the universe.  We are always very pleased with Apologia!

FlipStir Puzzle Review

FlipStir Puzzles Reviews
My kids love puzzles, but often in our experience, the pieces get lost or bent up.  Having the baby in the house makes puzzle making even more difficult when “Simon-Zilla” crawls through the middle of whatever the big kids are doing.  With this in mind, I was excited to check out the Statue of Liberty FlipStir Puzzle from Enlivenze LLC.  I didn’t even know such a product existed!

FlipStir Puzzles Reviews

What is it?

FlipStir is a self-contained, 10 piece 3D puzzle that is made right here in the USA.  Using the wand, you maneuver the puzzle pieces to create the picture in order.  The instructions are simple – Shake, Stir, Solve!  This particular puzzle is geared toward ages 7 and up.  No batteries and no lost pieces!  It features an easy to clean surface and helps improve fine motor skills and dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and spatial relations skills.

The award winning FlipStir puzzle has earned the following awards:

  • 2015 Dr. Toy Top Ten Best Active Toys
  • 2015 Creative Child Magazine “Puzzle of the Year”
  • 2015 Seal of Approval from The National Parenting Center
  • 2015 Family Choice Awards Winner
  • 2014 Tillywig “Brain Child” award
  • 2014 Creative Child Magazine “Game of the Year – Puzzle Games Category”
  • Toy Man News & Reviews – The Toy Man “Seal of Approval,” The Toy Man “Award of Excellence,” The Toy Man “Editor’s Choice,” The Toy Man “Award of Recognition,” The Toy Man “S.T.E.M. Award,” The Toy Man “Mom Approved” Award

Screen Shot 2016-08-17 at 12.02.42 PM

Our Thoughts:

We have had fun with the FlipStir puzzle, but I must say that it is much more challenging than it appears!  It took me a while to assemble the puzzle, much longer than I expected.  Out of the kids, only 1 of mine have been able to put the puzzle together, but not for a lack of trying!  It’s definitely been a challenge.  A couple kids did get frustrated with it but have kept going back to try and complete the puzzle.

The FlipStir Puzzle is a great toy to take along on car rides or traveling to keep little hands busy.  We are happy we had the chance to check out this puzzle and are eager to see if Enlivenze LLC brings out more puzzles in the future.

Review: Heirloom Audio Productions – Beric the Briton

Beric The Briton Heirloom Audio Productions Review
Back in March, we reviewed The Dragon and the Raven for you guys.  When we were asked to review another great product from Heirloom Audio Productions called Beric the Briton, we jumped at the chance.  When I say jumped, I mean really jumped.  My son jumped up and down over and over in excitement.  I’m definitely checking into other titles in the G.A. Henty adventures for his christmas gift.

My kids love listening to audio productions and this one did not disappoint.  We took a few days and listened to Beric the Briton in the evenings before bed.  Every night the kids groaned when I paused the CD so we could continue the next night.  They were so intrigued that I believe they would have sat right there on the couch the entire duration if given the chance.

About the Product:

Beric the Briton is a 2 CD set with over 2 hours of audio drama.  This time, in G.A. Henty’s adventures, we can join Beric and Bodouc as they are trained as gladiators and placed into the service of Nero during the Roman invasion!  Through the audio adventures, you will hear as Beric and Bodouc are forced to face their Pagan past and overcome many obstacles.  The Heirloom Audio Production mission includes bringing Christian history to life.

With the CD set, you’ll also gain exclusive access to lots of bonus products!

Brice the Briton Bonuses

The bonus products include:

  • Beric the Briton MP3 Downloads – MP3 of the Beric the Briton Adventure
  • Beric the Briton eBook – Henty’s original with new colorful graphics
  • Original MP3 Soundtrack – original score by Emmy-winning composer
  • Printable Cast Poster – Promotion poster featuring the star-studded cast
  • Study Guide and Discussion – Discussion Points, History Guide, and Bible study
  • Inspirational Verse Poster – Beautiful, printable copy of the inspirational verse
  • Live the Adventure Letter – Unlimited access to The Live Adventure webs
  • Behind the Scenes Video – Video documentary with the cast and crew in studio

The study guide includes ways to help your child remember what they have heard, think about the lessons learned, and even grow their vocabulary.

Screen Shot 2016-07-21 at 7.04.26 PM

The questions and activities are broken up in sections and clearly labeled with the areas to stop and discuss from the CDs, as you can see from above.  All help point the children into understanding some wonderful lifelong concepts of courage and bravery.

My Thoughts:

As with The Dragon and the Raven, we just loved listening to the adventures in Beric the Briton.  The sound effects are so wonderful that you feel like you’re actually there in the story as well with the gladiators and soldiers!  It was very well done.

As a mom, I appreciate knowing that I do not have to worry that the kids will hear something inappropriate.  This audio drama is geared toward children.

There is so much that I want to tell you about the story, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.  All I can say is that it keeps you on the edge of your seat and thirsty for more.  No complaints from me!

For More Information:

During this summer, we’ve been slowing our school down a bit and are learning more about the Bible.  Our friends at Veritas Press provided us with a One Year Family Subscription to VeritasBible.com to check out their exciting Bible program.

Old and New Testament Online Self-Paced Bible Veritas Review

About VeritasBible.com:

VeritasBible.com is a new online Bible program that helps kids to learn more about the Bible without really even realizing that they are learning.

Currently, there are three different courses included in VeritasBible.com.  Those courses are:

  • Genesis to Joshua
  • Judges to Kings
  • The Gospels

2 more courses are being added soon, although the website doesn’t mention when that will be yet.  Those are:

  • Chronicles to Malachi and Job
  • Acts to Revelation

Each course covers 32 main events in that section of the Bible and features music to help memorize the chronology of events.  Memory tools for names, dates, and places are also utilized during the course.  Through the VeritasBible.com program, your children will explore the Bible through activities in art, music, and geography.  Each course also includes projects, worksheets, and tests.

Our Thoughts:

I have been using VeritasBible with my older 3 kids, ages 12, 9, and soon to be 7.  So far, my kids are loving VeritasBible.com.  They to play their “Bible game” daily!

I have started each of my three older children on a different course since they often like to watch over a sibling’s shoulder during computer times.  My almost 7 year old has started on Genesis to Joshua, my 9 year old on Judges to Kings, and my oldest on The Gospels.

We found that my almost 7 year old enjoys using VeritasBible.com but that it is a little advanced for her, personally.  She is a little behind on reading and some of the big words on the quizzes and such were more than she could do right now.  She did very well with it if I sat with her and helped with the bigger words.  She really enjoys the program though and I can tell that she is still learning, even if she does need a little assistance.

My son has learned more in the past few weeks from the Judges to Kings program than I even knew about that section of the Bible!  He has been memorizing the judges of Israel in order and much more!  I think I may even need to go through this program!

My oldest thinks that the songs are somewhat catchy, but she did get a little tired of hearing them in each lesson.   My son likes watching the map change as the characters venture through the Bible stories and playing the games.

Some of the quizzes were a little hard for them, though.  There were a lot of little details that it would ask the kids to recollect, and oftentimes we would have to redo a lesson and work together to come up with the answers.  It appears that the program greatly focusses on memorization, which it wonderful when learning about Biblical material.

I think we will continue using VeritasBible.com throughout this year and maybe more in the future since I have seen how much they have grown in their understanding and knowledge of the Bible.  I look forward to my kids completing their current programs and moving on to see the new ones yet to be released.
